A friend of mine, Kevin Butler wanted his marriage proposal to be something special. He brought me some rough sketches and as we worked together on the design, this is what evolved. It’s made of bubinga, figured birch, and ebony. The inscriptions were done by Lindell Valentine of PJ Works in Keithville, Louisiana. The wedding was held on March the 7th this year so I guess it worked.

The heart is removable and held the diamond engagement ring. "Will You Marry Me" is inscribed on it. The proposal date is inscribed in the bottom of the drawer. There is a stop mechanism to prevent the drawer from coming out any farther.
The plaques are inscribed with a poem pertaining to their first meeting and their courtship.
Kevin wanted the plaques removable so they can be displayed on easels.

I was browsing through the 'gallery' tonite and came across this lovely piece ..... and read your comments about how to deal with the 1300+ thumbs-up ...... your reply was the same as I would have given.
Tell you the truth ..... I never see myself in 'competition' with any fellow WW ..... I glady share whatever I know whenever asked ..... the real competition is within myself as I struggle to make my hands create what I can see so clearly in my minds eye.
Your attitude to the 'mystery' thumbs-up is in that spirit.
I hope and expect you will get many positive comments on this lovely piece.
Go take a look at my little box .... "Dancer" .... somewhere a few pages back
I, myself have several boxes in here. I just have to say though, you've done a magnificent job here. I'm kind of like you too. My satisfaction is inner. Honestly, I think the best prize would be that Fine Wood Working recognized the winners work in such high regaurd.
With its graceful curves, cabriole legs, and ornamental back splat, a Queen Anne side chair is a bucket list build for many woodworkers. Dan Faia had a very specific Queen…
