Art Deco-Inspired Writing Desk

Gallant made this Art Deco-inspired writing desk (20 in. deep by 40 in. wide by 32 in. tall) while a studio fellow at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine. He credits frequent critiques by members of the faculty for help in refining it. The desktop is made of quartersawn walnut veneer over 1⁄2-in. MDF. The legs and rails are solid walnut, also covered with quartersawn walnut veneer, and the stringing and knobs are holly. Gallant lined the drawers with Italian white leather.
