Hand,Heart and Eye Trophy For Inclusive Student
A small gift presented to Nathan, a dedicated hardworking student of mine after a very successful year in grade 12 cabinetmaking. Titled Hand, Heart and Eye as a reminder to him that when we work with our hands and stay true to our intent there is a beauty revealed, naturally in what we have made, but also in our inner journey-our sense of accomplishment.
“Project Teamwork” as we all called it. It was definitively a collaborative effort. Focused on common goals we worked hard to remove barriers and adapt as we needed. The most important part of working with an inclusive student is not the building of any one thing; it wasn’t modifying equipment or worrying about making mistakes, it was the building of hope in a young man that he will always get to try- that his experiences in life would be real, rewarding, and full of success-exactly the way we would want it for ourselves.

This is a beautiful tribute to a life enriching experience had by all. A true work of art BobWhelan. Thank you for teaching us all how to include all students in an environment often thought of as inaccessible to students with disabilities.
