Fine Woodworking on Planes and Chisels
Taunton Press, 1985.
$17.95; 96 pp.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Fine Woodworking, the Taunton Press is re-releasing a number of classic titles from our Fine Woodworking on… series.
We have a winner!
Long out of print, Fine Woodworking on Planes and Chisels is filled with expert information that’s as timeless now as when it was first published. In this collection of 29 articles from Fine Woodworking magazine, expert craftsmen explain how they choose, sharpen, and use most types of planes and chisels. There’s advice on tool maintenance, plus plans for making your own wooden-bodies planes, and a thorough discussion of sharpening.
Lucky PurdueDan is the winner. His comment was chosen at random. (And here’s a shout out to gsuing for his great haiku about planes and chisels).

I think the information on Making your own lanes is the most interesting part. There is something to be said for crafting your own tools.
This would be nice to have.

Nice way to promote a book! If I don't win, I'll think about buying one.

Put me down as interested in the book. Books like this one are timeless. And one can never have too many books as one can always just build more bookcases :)

I have not read it but if it's from Fine Woodworking I am sure it will be good.

The art of shaping and creating a useful object from a simple plank, using so simple tools as a chisel or a plane, is what brought me to the woodworking world. The general lack of quality written material about that is what brought me to Fine Woodworking. As a Brazilian woodworker, I can always rely on those, recent or old, everlasting words.
Some of the articles in this book are graven deep in my memory!
Another Great Fine Woodworking Book!
I really could use the valuable info on wood planes. I have blades that could use sharpening but don't know how to get the best results.
Yo, Adrian!
I'll bite.
I remember reading these articles many years ago. Nice to have them back.
I could really use as a reference book.
Great looking book
What a great resource. As someone who's just getting started with hand tools, this would be great to have.
Planes, planes, just learning here, need a book on planes!
Primal information from recent re-discovery of hand tools.
I would love this. If I can get my wife to read it, maybe she would understand why, when after I filled the garage with power tools I search Ebay and garage sales for old hand planes.
I have to wonder why I don't already have this book.
Looks like exactly what I need.
