I recently offered “Making Ladder Back Chairs with Russ Filbeck” in one of my book giveaways. So when I saw the news of a recent charity auction where Russ sold one of his chairs, I was interested.
The Carter Center’s annual Winter Auction was held Feb 27, 2011. The auction is a benefit for the not-for-profit Carter Center’s initiatives to advance peace and health worldwide and Russ and his wife donated a few items for the auction. The chair he donated was a replica of a rocking chair he had previously made for President Carter. It’s an Appalachian-style ladder back rocker made of cherry with a hickory bark woven seat. The chair was listed with a value of $8000 and it sold for $45,000.
I think that’s a pretty penny going to a pretty good cause.
