very nice, how long did it take to build?
Very nice! I have the plans for the same bench but haven't made it yet, my wood is still sitting in log form. I have five 9 foot west coast, big leaf, maple logs behind my house waiting for the new chainsaw mill my friend and I just finished building. Is your wood big leaf maple? Interesting grain pattern. TJ
Thanks for the comments. To awnser your question TJ, I live on the north of Montreal (QC), so we don't have big leaf maple growing around here. The wood comes from sugar maples wich we have a lot over here. I guess this is why the grain pattern is kind of weird or less uniform ? I hope you will post your project when finished. It would be interresting to see the workbench made out of big leaf maple.
As for Rob, I did not count the hours but lets say around two months part time of course. I would estimate around 70 hours.
I've been thinking about a maple bench project for sometime in the future. I have a 7 foot torsion-box top bench I made when i was a teenager. Its lasted me 30+ years. I'd like to downsize slightly to about 5.5 feet x 26 inches as my 11.5 x 14.5 foot shop is tight on space; and add some features like a dual vise and bench dog holes.
Your's is a beautiful example of what I'm interested in. Very well done.
Very nice bench. Iwish my shop was so clean. Working on that. See my post on Lumberjocks...More suck less dust. all the best..1953 Stancraft
I built the same bench about 3 years ago and love using it. Since mine is free standing (no wall to hang a tool cabinet on) I built the cabinet Lon designed for FWW to go underneath and it works great. I live near the Pacific Ocean so I added the corrosion resistant liners to the drawers and it helps keep my handtools rust free.
