Gimlet burl and Blackwood Centerpiece bowl
This Australian Gimlet burl centerpiece was a concept that included the fabrication of African Blackwood feet. The challenge for this object was to accomplish a unified 3/16″ wall thickness, while utilizing three blackwood feet. Furthermore, in order to achieve an adequate bond, the top radius curve of the blackwood had to exactly match the (round) bowl bottom.

Fabulious looking wood! Where can I get some? I would like to ( depending on it`s price )use it on a variety of progects. The dark and light colors and with the sponge like inherent componate of the wood is quite catching.
Starvncarvn: Yes, you can purchase the gimlet burl from australianburls.com on occasion, or do a google search for australian burls. The gimlet is like turning a cinderblock, very tough stuff, and you need to re-sharpen tools frequently. It truly is fabulous stuff though. Glad you enjoyed my pics.

Jim, I apologize for any confusion you may have but you are not tagged in any way with any of my work. My tags for my maple bowl are as follows: (wood turning, maple, oil, bowl, curly). If you are still having issues, please take it up with the website host.
