Resaw fence allows boards to release tension
This bandsaw fence allows the board to spring open or closed without affecting the cut. When resawing boards on a bandsaw, the two main goals are a smooth surface and uniform thickness. The usual approach is adding a tall fence to the existing bandsaw fence. When some boards are split down the middle, however, internal tensions are released, causing the halves to bow or bend away from each other, with the inner piece deflecting into the fence, which in turn pushes the board into the blade and affects the cut. My resaw fence ends roughly 1 in. past the blade, allowing a board to spring open or closed without affecting the cut. It includes a square cutout that allows the upper blade guide to be lowered for resawing narrower boards. It attaches easily by means of a rear bracket and clamp knob, shaped to fit over the fence on my Hammer bandsaw. You’ll need to adapt the bracket to suit your fence design. Give this fence design a try; I think you’ll love the surfaces it produces.
