Throat Plate with Replaceable Inserts

Infinity Tools is now selling a zero-clearance throat plate for SawStop tablesaws ($110, infinitytools.com, No. 100-335). The aluminum plate has replaceable melamine-covered MDF inserts where the blade cuts. The inserts are inexpensive (4 for $14, No. 100-337), allowing you to have custom zero-clearance inserts for several blades, blade angles, and dado-set widths.

I tried the throat plate in FWW’s shop and found that it fit the saw extremely well. Height adjustment is done using the saw’s screws at the rear and built-in screws at the front. Likewise, the replaceable inserts fit perfectly and slide in easily, making them quick to change. There are inserts available for both the standard riving knife and the blade guard/dust collection riving knife.

The throat plate doesn’t have the locking feature found on the SawStop throat plate, but with the precise fit and the machined-in hold-down at the rear of the plate, I don’t think it is necessary.
