Do you need a workbench? Or do you need to improve the one you’ve got? Fine Woodworking Best Workbenches and Workbenches are collections of articles from the magazine and provide all sorts of great info to get you working on that workbench. You can build your own – there are at least eight project articles for different workbench styles in the book and a few more in the magazine– or you can tweak the bench you already have. Both the book and the magazine cover holding workpieces and other bench accessories, improving workbenches, and specialized workbenches. With these two publications you’ll have no excuse not to have the workbench of your dreams.

Leaving the first response means that I want it the most! :^}
I appreciate the opportunity to enter.
I second that, I mean I'm second
would like more books on workbenches
Great. I am in the process of designing and building two new work benches.
I sawed an ash log two years ago for base. I am ready for ideas, bring em on!
I wish I may, I wish I might
build a bench that works just right.
I bought some 100+ year old reclaimed pine barn beams for a hybrid Roubo like the one John Tetreault built but I need the plan. Please please please let me win!
I'm nearly finished my workbench without reading books like these. Already I see deficiencies. I could really benefit from this one.
Looks like all you need
Would like to see some articles on same technique executed with different kinds of woods (hard v. soft, oily v. not, brittle v. not, irregular v. straight grain, etc.). Also more articles showcasing design styles, all of them, not just a couple of favored ones.
Best of luck to everyone but hopefully that luck will be mine when the draw happens. ;^)
I would love to win something in my lifetime that is useful. I have made a couple of work benches but niether are satisfactory and I could use some good ideas.
Another hat in the ring! Thanks!
I'd love to have these!
This is very timely as I am looking for ideas for a new bench.
I need to build a work bench. This would be a wonderful resource.
Great book!
I'm ready for a workbench upgrade as well -- this would be a great source for ideas.
The workbench is one of few tools in a shop that is used in every single project.
I'd like to build a new workbench for a gift, so this would be perfect yup help me choose the right style.
I've been researching workbenches for a possible next project. This would really help out.
Building a workbench, especially your first, is a special project because, having never had one specifically for your own space, your own use, and your developing skills, everything seems like a potential variable to tweak. For instance, I've never seen any commentary specifically about the pros and cons of using a workbench/table saw out feed combo. I can imagine so of the issues, but I've never read anything by anyone who uses such a set up or tried it (though I noticed mike pecovich uses does). I've got a very small space and such a set up is therefore intriguing.
Would definitely be a nice edition to the library. thanks.
two tomes of talent: a double dose of stability!
Wow! These wood really come in handy!
Count me in I need to build a new workbench and this would be a great help.
Count me in please.
I'd like these!
These books look great and I could use a workbench upgrade. My best bench has a top made from a birch veneered solid-core exterior door.
The challenge is the my eyes are bigger than my wallet. Sigh, what can I afford.
so my work bench it about as bad as they come. It's on casters from a server rack the posts are leftover 4x4s from my back deck, the top is a door out of a frat house that almost burned down and I covered it with 1/2inch MDF... oh and I got this beautiful jet vise attached to it that I got for chrismas. It's as ugly as it gets. The vise makes it look like Donald Trump driving a pino.

Free, did you say free? That's my favorite thing. You are just the nicest people. I love free!
"Holding workpieces"? Doesn't everyone use gum? That's about all I've got at this point. Got the scars to prove it.
THATS A DUMB NAME FOR A BOOK
Just beginning my adventure into working with hardwoods and hand tools. Could really use these to help me get ideas for my much needed bench!
I would have worked longer on the name of the book, but I sure could use it. Count me in.
I hope to build a workbench later this year. The book will be invaluable.
I have been drooling over all the fancy workbenches with end and leg vises! Best of luck to everyone!
perfect timing!
considering a new workbench...
Here's hoping my time to win finally comes, and I'll get some inspiration as I consider building a new workbench.
March 26th, my Birthday, sounds like a great gift Fine Woodworking!
Count me interested.
I'm actually starting a workbench build next week so I can prolong it long enough for these to come in. :) Crosses fingers.
gone set up a hobbyshop in the next years to come.A nice workbench is on top of the list :)
more great books from Fine Woodworking!!
I need a new workbench due to a serious hand injury. The book would help.
Great timing, just about to start building my workbench!!
IN PROCESS OF BUILDING A SHOP. wOULD BE A PLUS
yes please, my workbench is way too low, and my back needs a new one.
Count me in
Rolling the dice here. :) Would love a book on workbenches. :)
Perfect timing. I'm in design mode now for a new bench. Thank you.
Looks like a good read.
Would love to win and have these resources at my fingertips!
I am currently building my primary bench, with intentions on adding storage underneath (not yet designed) and a second bench next year. This would be a great resource!
Thanks, in advance, for sending me the prize! :)
I would like to get some insight before building my workbench.
I could use some help building my first bench.
I will be building work bench very soon and this would be very helpful.
Look like great new books! Looking forward to them!
I'd Love To Win These Books.
Thanks
I am getting serious about a workbench as the one I currently own (scrounged from an old woolen mill) is more suited for machining/metal work than woodworking.
Please count me in for this contest.
Great timing, just designing one now.
Can never have enough workbench ideas.
It would be great to win these. I'm going to build a bench in the near future.
"More benches?" said the wife! Really?!
I really do need more woodworking books, I swear.
You never have enough books on benches.
I have a finished work bench that has been 2+ years in the making. Needless to say, these would help!
I have a HALF finished work bench that has been 2+ years in the making. Needless to say, these would help!
I've been studying the workbench designs to design and build one for myself, and these would be a big help!
I am a young woodworker doing finish work in a stairbuidling company. Need to build a good workbench!!!
I would like to win these books!
This would be a fine addition to my collection of books and magazines.
A wired shed with a rebuilt 1960 contractor saw, a 3hp 1/2" router and table added on, a second hand band saw (under $100), cordless drills, and a host of other tools collected over 20 years of "military moving", I am read to do some woodworking - now if I just had a book to show me what to do with all these tools!
Sign me up!
Just what I need another idea for a project and of course, I'll probably build one of these projects!
as soon as I'm done building a cherry chest of drawers for my newborn son, i will build a new workbench for myself. one that has a good vise, one that is heavy, one that doesn't flex more than me, and one that i can store my (few) tools in.
I have a makeshift bench that has served me fairly well over the years but building a traditional bench has been gaining my interest more and more. Taunton Publications and FW do a superb job, I am certain this book would be a tremendous aid in getting the project wel built and functional.
Yes, yes .... workbench, maybe some day :)
Excellent, count me in!
Need some ideas on rebuilding my workbench for a "Lefty", me.
Just in time! I will be starting to build a workbench as soon as the snow melts and the weather warms up.
What - workbenches are supposed to be flat? Help!
Thanks for a chance to win.
Sounds interesting - count me in.
Count me in. Sounds interesting.
Great! I would be happy to have this!
Sweet, looking to build a new workbench. thanks for the opportunity.
Designing workbenches for new shop. A new book would be fun and helpful!
The books look neat. I'm looking forward to reading them and adding to the list of ideas I need to incorporate on my upcoming Clockwork Bench.
Looks great. Like to add to my collection.
I am fairly new to woodworking and am currently restoring my barn to use as my workshop. A new workbench would really help to get me going with trying the many projects I see on the Fine Woodworking website.
If I had a diamond tiara, this would look good sitting right next to it...
Roubo split top here I come!
I am moving next month, and a new workbench would be great for my new space :) Nan
One of my projects for spring is a new bench b/c my current one is a long folding table!
I hope lucky number 100 scores me a sweet book! Crossing my fingers on this one.
Thanks Fine Woodworking!
Count me in.
I'll trade you a comment for a book.
Thanks for a chance to win.
I think I've outgrown the 1x2 workbench my dad built for me when I was 5. =D
Looks like a great book!
It would be great to win for eny one. Good luck to all but I want it for myself. Thanks for the chance.
This would be perfect for me. I need a descent bench!
yes please - count me in
The only thing better than building funiture is making tools to build furniture. A workbench is part of my future plans. I love your magazine, keep up the good work.
Cheers

I need to build a bench. Just finish the remod and I'll have time!
I'm working on a new workbench now. Could use additional ideas.
Im an aspiring woodworker and chose a workbench as my first project. Pretty ambitious, I know, we'll see how it goes, im pretty nervous.
Anyways, I need all the help I can get
It would be nice to win something! Looking forward to seeing you guys at FWW Live!
Love to win a good book !
still looking for workbench ideas
My workbenches are made for automotive/metal work. They are too tall and not heavy enough for hand tools.
I will be reworking my shop into a woodworking shop in the very near future, and could use the information these books have to offer.
Thanks,
Doug, Bakersfield, CA
You have some Great idea's for workbenches for a Sharpening Shop
I really need a new work bench; this could be just the inspiration!
Looking forward to this, even if I don't win it!
Well, I'll try again...... one of these days...... even a blind hog will find an ear of corn once in a while...... :/
great...I'm in too.
Count me in , Looks like a great book. Thank You
Looking to build two workbenches, add me to the list
Im in. my current workbench is an MDF top with a 2x4 frame.
This could prove to be the best library addition in awhile.
Plus my 3rd or 4th make-shift bench is wore out and on the brink of collapse.
Got my fngers crossed.
Great idea for a give away! I've been looking to build a bench for a while now.
I have been planning to build a really solid bench with an adjustable height feature, and could really benefit from the material in your book.
I would really love to win this package as well. I am reading about the old benches from all over the world right now and really trying to put some solid research into the bench before I build it. I want it to be the only one I ever have to build and know that I got it right the first time.
After reading the first comment, and for being the last commenter (I don't think so), that means I want it the most. Sign me up, please.
I am setting up a new work space and my top priority is a new workbench. This will be the first one I will build myself.
I've built mostly with power tools all my life. A real workbench would encourage use of hand tools and be an asset for some tasks related to power tool projects.
These would be a nice addition to the woodworking library I'm assembling.
Hope one of the benches has a spot to store books and plans ...
Just got my first shop and need a perfect workbench.
I am pondering which type of workbench will suit my needs. There are so many variations to choose from.
Perhaps this book will discuss material selection for workbenches. I look forward to checking it out.
my first work table it just completely wobbly. While I could fix it I would love to get all the tricks and features that exist in the worktables i see online.
!!
I have been planning/dreaming of my ultimate workbench for 25+ years, waiting until I have a shop that is worthy of such a bench. I am just finishing setting up my new workshop, it is 2,000 sq. ft. on the first floor and this bench would look great center stage. I am looking for a book that will allow me to combine features from multiple workbench designs to make a workbench that will fit all of my needs and be deserving of my new shop. I think that these books are it.
Thank you for all of the wonderful materials over the decades.
Glenn
Every woodworker needs a good workbench and every good workbench needs a good design. Count me in for a great addition to my woodworking library.
looks like a great book.
Never ceases to amaze me how cheap woodworkers can be. You dream of a workbench for 25 years? For less than a dollar a year, you could actually own this book and stop dreaming. For those of you still really not sure of what kind of bench to build, may I suggest a sewing bench, because a real woodworker would know they want a Roubo bench with double chain drive to prevent racking, a pattern maker's vice, handmade bench dogs, three phase electric, hand forged hold-downs, MDF protected surfaces, tool tray and hot and cold running coffee. Now, you all go and buy this here book. I will let you know how invaluable a resource it is as soon as Taunton sends it to me. Thanks.
Roubo FTW!
Roubo FTW!
Sounds like a great plan!
Count me in.
Sounds like a great resource. Count me in!
You know what they say three's a charm and a magical number. Besides I'm setting up a shop and don't have a bench.
I have always admired the kinds of benches portrayed in the volumes -- and have wanted to build one. My utilitarian table/benches are functional, but lack the features of a traditional work bench.
This would be great inspiration to finally getting around to building a proper bench!
I would love to build my own workbench, and these books just might be the push I need to get started!
Interested. I'm still in the process of setting up a functional workshop. The house came with a basic bench (no vise at all, alas) and a kitchen counter which had been moved down to the basement as starting surfaces, I rescued a rugged old dresser as tool storage, and I'm still trying to find an arrangement of these and the larger tools which makes everything work fairly smoothly.
I've been promising myself a good "forever" workbench for over thirty years. Having a good plan might prod me into building one now.
It has taken 15 years to finally get the workshop I wanted, no more begging for time in my father's shop anymore.
I have just purchased a SawStop Professional Cabinet table saw, my dust collection system is on order and I am just about to start making my shop. This book is timely as one of the first projects is to build a quality workbench.
Count me in.
My bench sucks.
A while back I had a fire in my shop caused by a woods fire. My work bench was somewhat damaged. I was able to repair it but it now has some limitations. I would like to build another and incorporated in it all the ideas I have seen over the years of which many I can no longer remember. I hope to have a new bench that fits my needs for years to come.
I built at least a 100 work benches over the last 35 years. Each fullfilled a different purpose, sized to fit the available space, and hundreds of different matierals, vises, and support structures. I am always looking for new, improved ideas for the next work bench, or rework an existing one. Still looking for that "perfect" bench.
Enter me. Am in the process of remodeling my workshop and can always use new ideas for benches.
My current bench is a composite of four different features combined into one reality. Most of my work is a combination of ideas that result in something new. Another bench could be very stimulating to create. Looking forward to hearing from you on Tuesday!!!
This reminds me of the box of ancient WorkBench magazines I got from my grandfather. I haven't seen that magazine in years. Enjoying this one though.
I'm ready to start a new bench.
This sounds like a real good deal. I am using a pieced together workbench (basic style) until I can get all the supplies to build one, which will include a face and tail vices and bench dogs. Love both the online and the magazine
Thank you,
Roy
I'm ready for a new bench! Please enter me in the draw for the books, they would be 'muchly' appreciated. :)
Of course I am in! Is still a pending issue to build a really good workbench which fits my needs. An always exciting project, so I hope to be lucky enough to count on this set. Thanks to FWW.
Count me in. My current bench is an old door!
Off the shelf workbenches are most often designed for men, but for women with sawdust in their veins, the only option is to build your own. A little design help along the way, would be a bonus. Move over all you men out there - this one's mine! ;-)
Count me in too!
Count me in a great prize I would welcome in my shop.
I cheated when I first started woodworking and bought a bench, missing that 'initiation'. It's about time to fix that error using these resources.
I'm a little shocked at how many readers want better vices, when all I want is a good vise. I'm pretty satisfied with my vices.
What a good prize! I would love to use this to build a heritage work bench! =0)
Looks like a great package. Sign me up!
I've been looking into building a bench this would be a great help.
My brother is always asking for plans/ideas for a workbench-this sounds great!
Count me in, I have two work benches and each has a use, I would very much like one that does everything.
I am also in need of some night time reading.
I have had a number of wall benches, & Mobile work benches over the years. I am now using an old desk, & it's Melamine!
NUF SAID! I spilled something on the surface, & it boiled up! ?????? So I need something more solid with vises! to be able to do better quality work on a cleaner, sturdier bench~
Looks like a group of "Fine" reading material! Please enter me in the contest!
Would love to add a woodworking bench to my shop. Both the book and mag could help in making a good choice on what type to build.
Man, could I use these. Pick me!!! Pick ME!!!
Count me in as well
I could sure use these!
This was going to be my next major project - would sure come in handy !!!
Forty plus years in the business, retired; now working on third shop set up. It is about time I built a proper bench for ME! And I could always use the input from an excellent book. Thanks.
Great project opportunities for myself and my children!
Would love to have and use the book/magazine as I am currently struggling to design a new work bench. After over 20 years of moving around the world, and trying to raise 5 kids, I finally have the chance to upgrade my "workshop", which is really a small 2 car garage, with updated tools and a new work bench. Due to the size limitations which will certainly impact my work bench options, as well as my desire to take my very rusty woodworking skills to a new level of performance, the ideas and information available in the book and magazine would be invaluable.
