Judging by this new offering from DeWalt, shop compressors are getting smaller, quieter, and more efficient. These tools handle the workload of finish nailing without the bulk and noise often associated with larger compressors, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed.
The DeWalt Emglo (model D55141) weighs 30 lbs. and has easy-to-read line and tank gauges. The tank fills in around 1 minute and 20 seconds, but recharges quickly in around 15 seconds. Unlike some competing compressors, the DeWalt has two quick-connect fittings to accommodate two finish nailers. And the danger of hose recoil is eliminated due to a rubber gasket inside the quick connect.
With a full tank, this compressor was able to drive about 15, 1-1/4-in. finish nails or 22, 1-in. brad nails before recharging.

It handles really smoothly, too, and has a tall body that fit my hand nicely whether I was holding it from above or around the waist.
The Festool Rotex is a top-of-the-line choice. On its coarse setting, it removed stock nearly twice as quickly as the second-fastest model. But that speed doesnât mean youâll have to wrestle with it. This tool is designed for convenience. The battery and pins are easy to load, and the safety lock operates with the same finger you use to pull the trigger. The depth of set is adjustable, thereâs a work light, and thereâs a hook for hanging the tool on your toolbelt. A gauge lets you keep track of when youâll need to recharge.
With its graceful curves, cabriole legs, and ornamental back splat, a Queen Anne side chair is a bucket list build for many woodworkers. Dan Faia had a very specific Queen…
