cherry footstool

The top and live edges in the legs were from a slab of cherry, though I didn't know it at the time. It was lying in a friend's back yard in the dirt (actually mud; it had been raining) and was very heavy, which tipped me off that it was a hardwood. The legs and spreaders - also cherry - were scraps left over from a CD and record cabinet that I had built for the same friend as a wedding present. Strange, but true, and - believe it or not - the day I found the cherry slab was the day of the wedding! He is not a wood worker and I have (and he has) no idea where the slab came from, or how long it had been lying around in his yard.
