Sculpted Low-Back Chair with a twist
comments (3) January 20th, 2013 in Reader's Gallery
This is sculpted low back chair I recently designed and finished for a show. It obviously pulls from Sam Maloof's low-back's, but I wanted to add a few different elements. The material used is American Black Walnut that was harvested along a creek bottom less than two miles from my childhood home in Southwest Oklahoma. The joinery utilized in the project were mortise and tennon, dowel, and a stepped dado joint. The finish is a hand rubbed Danish oil with a satin lacquer for a top clear coat.
