These bikes are part of a trio of bikes that I entered in a huge art competition last year in my hometown of Grand Rapids. The competition, entitled ArtPrize, attracts over 1500 entries.
My entry managed to make it into the top twenty for the public vote. Every single piece is made from a variety of woods including, white oak, ash, aspen, maple and even bamboo.

The fenders, made from strips of ash, took me five different tries to get right.

The wood for the frames and handlebars comes from a company that processes wood in such a way that it is bendable without steaming.

I used aspen to make all three seats.To color the frames I used a water-based dye.

The chain links are maple veneer. I had to make 600 individual links for three bikes.
