Checker/Chess Board made of Walnut & Hard Maple with a Cherry frame and base.
This checker/chess board was a Christmas gift for my Mother/Father-in-Law. The top is made of Walnut and Hard Maple framed with strips of Walnut, Hard Maple and a Cherry frame. The board sits securely on the base due to a 1/8″ rabbet on the underside of the board. The case is also made of Cherry and incorporates a decorative profile to simulate the shape of a chess piece. I mitered the case and included Walnut splines for strength and aesthetics. The case bottom is a solid Cherry panel that sits in a 1/4″ groove.
