18th Century American Empire Stool
I designed this stool after seeing an original in an antique shop, and taking a cell phone photo. The router jig I built to form the curved top and bottom presented some challenges. I thought it would look better with the ends thicker than the middle, necessitating different radii.
The wood is cherry, stained with Transtint, folowed by tung oil, then 3 coats of sprayed lacquer, mixed 1/2 satin and 1/2 semi-gloss to get the luster I wanted.
BTW, the chair behind the stool was my great grandmothers, dating to around 1880, restored and reupholstered.
