Benchtop Joiner’s Chest

A furniture maker and instructor at Roy Underhill’s Woodwright’s school in North Carolina, Anderson designed this benchtop joiner’s chest to use as the project for a five-day workshop focusing on basic joinery and bench skills. To make the chest, students must learn rabbets and dovetails, mortise-and-tenons, and tongue-and-groove joints, plus raising panels, among many other essential techniques. The box is made of poplar and painted with blue milk paint. The inside face of the lid is veneered with quilted cherry.
