A pair of clients turned to Santos for help after a fruitless search for a foyer bench to match the antiques that fill their home. They requested a functional piece with a painted finish to compliment their collection. Santos designed the turnings himself after an extensive review of William-and-Mary-era pieces. The base is hard maple finished with aniline dye followed by alternating layers of green, red, and black milk paint, plus shellac, and wax.

iGaging AccuMarking Digital Wheel Marking Gauge
A digital readout on the AccuMarking gauge measures to the nearest 0.0005 in. It can also be set to fractions or millimeters. Lacking a micro-adjust, however, it took a steady hand to dial in exact dimensions on the sensitive readout. The cutting disk needed considerable work to correct a rounded-over edge, but once sharpened, it cut well.
One of many extremely accurate Incra miter gauges, this model offers 180-degree adjustment to 1/10 of a degree, and a long, straight fence with a telescoping stop system.
The thick, felted bag on this Shop Fox is a plus and a minus. On one hand, it makes the unit much less expensive than collectors with canister filters, and also lighter and easier to hang on the wall. Without a separate plastic bag to catch chips, however, they stay in the felt bag, and the shortish zipper on the bottom makes it tough to shake them out. Otherwise, the W1826 is an excellent value.
