Cocobolo Conference Table
The top is plywood underneath 1/4″ thick cocobolo veneer pie shapes. The edge is segmented solid wood glue up of wenge and cocobolo with a veneer or maple separating the layers. The “M” shapes at the center of each segment is added before routing the ovolo edge treatment. The center detail is a top to botom symetrical design of the owner’s initial – Mc. The background was routed with templates to insure exact balance (they were able to be flipped left to right and top to bottom) and then the cocobolo was scribed and cut and filed to fit the routed recess in the background. The center medallion is 1/4″ thick and is inlayed with an ebony border. The background is quilted birdseye maple, the letter is Cocobolo. The leg structure is held together with 3/8″ threaded rods fastened into nuts and washer embedded in the turned and laminated leg nodes, for rock solid weight bearing. The legs and feet are rasped and sanded to shape. The finish is 16 coats of sprayed lacquer hand rubber between every four coats. The finish sat for six weeks and was handrubbed to its final gloss with a felt block and rottenstone. The dimensions are 50″ diameter, 30″ high. The top is 1-3/4″ thick.

Absolutely beautiful work! You should be really proud.
How do you feel about the longevity of the table top being that you used 1/4" "veneer" as opposed to a much thinner veneer? It has been my experience (I learned the hard way) that a veneer of that thickness will act like solid wood and will warp and self-destruct over the long term, no matter how well you have sealed it.
As a side note, you will get a much more symmetrical matching pattern by using a thinner veneer since the pattern shift will be much less from piece to piece.
The table is nice looking though.
That is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
love the table, do you have a close up picture of the emblem you can post?
Oh! Trying to win,,how cliche'. lolol..just kidding.great design.Lot of ingenuity there.Wish I had one. Gorgeous.
The table is 14 years old now and no movement so far... of course the owner takes very good care of it.
I'll see if I can post a photo of the center and other details.
Thanks for the feedback.
