These narrow built-ins were ordered by a customer needing storage space in a tiny bathroom.  The stain colour, moldings (head, base, door faces) and the the bead detail around the doors and drawer faces were selected to match those of a rather ornate vanity that was already installed.  To prevent users of the space from feeling cramped the upper sections of the units were made shallower (8″ deep) than the lower sections (12″ deep).  The upper section of the storage unit on the right is equipped with a lock and serves as a child-safe medicine cabinet.  Both units are 76″ high.  The unit on the right is 10 1/2″ wide.  The other is 12 1/2″ wide.  The child-size two-step doubles as a storage unit for bath toys.  Micro beads were sprinkled in the wet lacquer to make non-slip stepping surfaces.  Units are made from birch veneered plywood and solid birch.  The finish is a sprayed waterborne lacquer over gel stain over aniline dye.
