A large chest of tools recently came to me from a friend who’s clearing out his shop and a bunch of stuff was a mystery to me google identified some of it but not these, they are obviously to drill holes but I have never seen anything like them. Pulling the small cylinder up and down spins the bit. There was some engraving stuff mixed in the lot maybe it has something to do with that?

Close quarter drill for pilot holes, like installing parts inside furniture? The one obviously also served as brass knuckles to keep apprentices in line.
My guess as well. Very cool looking tool.
They look like early versions of the Yankee drill. I have two #30s. They look like large screwdrivers and the mechanism is inside the shaft. Hold onto the chuck with one hand and run the handle up and down with the other. Keep skin out of the way when the handle bottoms out. There are three settings, two rachet in or out and a third locks it in both directions.
I’ll have to look up the yankee drill, and that second one does look like brass knuckles now that I look at them, here’s something else that looks old, google says it’s for a model t, or a buggy and I can’t read what’s stamped on it
That looks like a spanner ,like the flat metal ones you might get when you buy a tool. Model Ts,early airplanes etc. had a thing similar to that but much longer to turn the engine over for starting. That was for something but you'll probably never know what. I have a set of old Black Brothers clamps that that thing looks like it would be really handy for, if it is sized correctly.
I will measure it let you know
No, don't bother. What I meant was that if that was sized correctly it or something like it might have been supplied by the manufacturer. I have what I need to make mine work.
Ok , and thanks for the info, some of this stuff will definitely go into my collection of old stuff
