Hello all. New to the forum and relatively new to wood working. I am building our kitchen table. I already have chairs and am wanting to match the table top to the wood on the existing chairs. Attached is a pic of the wood chairs. I have two questions:
1. Any thoughts on what wood this is? Or suggestions on a wood substitute?
2. Based on the wood species you suggest, any additional suggestions on staining method to match stain will be appreciated
That being said, I am aware that even the same wood can look very different even when the same staining technique and color is applied.
Thanks everyone!
Brian

I THINK that wood is Robinia pseudoacacia, commonly known in its native territory as BLACK LOCUST. A hardwood thorny tree. In my county we use a lot this tree for fire, tools and furniture because is very hard. Maybe I'm wrong about this but I'm just trying to help and sorry in that case.
It looks a little like Shedua, but it's hard to tell with the glare. I can't help you with the stain, I use only clear urethane or oils.
There are a few good lumber sites you can go to, to compare the wood your chairs are made of.
I believe it's been stained based on some splotching I see. That said the grain resembles Birch, which does indeed splotch, and is a common furniture wood.
In addressing the color match, i would look to transtint dyes (dark walnut) as a base and then using or making a toner to sneak up on the color.
