I’m attempting some veneer for the first time. I’m going to use crotch mahogany veneer on the drawer fronts of a dresser. I have some kiln dried soft maple leftover from another project and I plan on the drawers being 3/4″ to 7/8″ thick. I live in the south where the humidity stays fairly constant (high!). Is the soft maple a suitable substrate for the veneer? Thanks!

Maple would make a great substrate for veneer.
The only concern is how deep your drawer is. If it is much over 5"-6" wide, you should veneer both sides. Also, any drawer over about 3" deep up to that 5"-6"depth, should be veneered after the drawer is glued together. Narrower drawers can be veneered and then glued together.
