Trim Router Hums but doesn’t spin.
A couple of years ago, one of my Porter Cable 7310 trim routers had the on switch fail in the on position, (it was a little disconcerting, but the flat top let me put it down safely until I could pull the plug).
I finally decided it was time to fix it a few weeks back, and ordered a new switch, and brushes.
I installed the new switch, both brushes, and a new cord. The bearings, seem fine, and I lubed them while I had it apart.
Got it back together, and tried it out.
It makes a quarter of a turn, and then just hums. It seems to be just as easy to turn as the other two I own. So, I don’t think it is bound up.
Anybody have any ideas of whats not right?

You may have an "open" or broken wire that energizes the stator coil. Or a broken wire going to the brushes.
For sure for sure one of the brushes isn't in 90° off so the curve does not fit up with the armature ?
My first thought was the push button lock for replacing cutters was stuck in the engaged position but you say it turns by hand nice so probably not that unless the return spring is not working and the lock falls into place when attempting to turn it on but falls out of engaged position when you turn it over to turn the chuck by hand.
Naaaah probably not that. Could maybe be a bad switch even though it is new. Try a squirt of tuner cleaner or WD-40 and work the switch a bunch and maybe rap the switch smartly a few times with a metal object. Cussing it in the language from the country it was manufactured in helps as well. Forget cussing it in English these days.

If you switch off, turn it a 1/4 turn by hand, and then switch on again does is stick in the same position as previously?
If so then it could be a broken wire.
