Thanks for letting me join. I recently acquired a nice Type 4 No 2 Stanley plane. It is missing the chipbreaker(iron cap) and the cap iron screw. The chipbreaker (1 & 5/8″) I can get off ebay, but I have one question about the screw.
Will a cap iron screw for a No 3 or 4 fit the No 2 plane chipbreaker? I read that they won’t fit a No 1, but no information on the No 2.
Any help appreciated

Reach out to these individuals. I have spoken to them on the phone in the past. They are very helpful and if they don't have it, I suspect they will have a couple of leads for you. Very nice people. Their website contains only a small fraction of what they have to sell. Talking or emailing them is the best way to go.

Am checking in w/them
Many thanks
Actually the 2 ,3,4,5 & 5 1/2 all use the same screw. I didn't look at any of the others but I'm betting they will be the same as well.
You might email Patrick Leach at Supertool, I've gotten Stanley parts from him before.

A great guy to go to is Michael Jenks; look at Just Plane Fun, the Parts Division on Facebook. Very knowledgeable and very honest and very fair.
No one would admit it if they own one. I've looked at them - Harbor Freight makes knock offs of Stanley Planes. They have one they call a #33 and they also make a #4. They retail for about $15 ! The body of the plane doesn't look half bad ,my guess is that the blade is probably not very good or maybe really bad. So does anyone know if the parts are interchangeable with an actual Stanley? We're only looking for a screw here!
I cannot imagine that any parts are available. And I'd much rather get an original part from a reputable dealer than spend even 15 bucks on a piece of crap from HF. It would bother me every time I picked it up.
I,on the other hand,if it worked I wouldn't even notice! Its a tool!
I actually considered buying the Harbor freight plane but then realized that since tuning up even a good quality plane is a fair amount of work and I had no need for it anyway ,I passed. Im sure the iron will be garbage besides. Seemed like a silly experiment.
I go to Harbor Freight for some stuff. Rubber gloves mostly or when the mechanic says he wants $1500 to do a simple job and I could do it but I need a special tool and Harbor Freight has it for $19! I always come away with probably a couple of clamps, and some other stuff. I highly recommend their hand screws, they are hardly distinguishable from my Jorgens at 1/4 the price. Granted, some of their stuff is dubious and I wouldn't buy an edge tool there. I needed a cleat nailer and bought one there for about the price of a days rental. Layed my floor and may never use it again or maybe I will, I have the tool. Tools are way too expensive anymore and besides a lifetime tool, for me, now, is entirely different thing than it was 50 years ago! If I was the OP I would go ebay or Craigslist or some local junk shop and pick up a beat up #4 Stanley because they are all over the place and you can pick one up cheap for the part and while I was at it maybe pick up a good # 4 or #5 because they are infinitely more useful than a 2 . A #2 is considered kind of rare and has some monetary value , besides its cute, but there is a reason why it's rare. I have one and I do use it but not all that often. It does look cute next to its big brothers I have to admit.
Buying a different brand plane to use the threaded parts on a Stanley won't work. They usually used non-standard threads.
