Hello everyone
I have a Stanley 48 tongue and groove plane. I love the plane and especially the idea of it, very clever: being able to plane a groove and a fitting tongue for it in two pieces of wood with the same plane simply by switching it from one position to another.
However, my 48 creates a tongue that is too wide for the groove it makes. As you may know the plane holds two blades, 8mm wide, and they are supposedly held apart at exactly that amount, but it seems that either they do not end up at the right distance from each other when I insert them and fasten, or perhaps they tend to drift apart during planing.
If anyone has experience with the 48 i’d be grateful for advice.
One thing that I have thought of is to look for a blade that is devided in two, but held together as one piece. That would probably cut a correct size groove.

A good place to begin in terms of exactly what you have in your hands...

I bought 2 of those and returned them, they were old and a bit "sloppy" in their workings. I bought the double-sided versions numbered in the 140s... solid castings and pretty bullet proof, though a lot less sexy.
