My project needs a couple clear heart select cherry 1x4s, straight, 18-feet long. Does anyone know of a mill that can supply these and ship them motor freight to me?
Location, preferably northeast. If it can be done, it will probably be one of the Pennsylvania mills that can do it.

You are best off calling the mills.
I suppose I would use shorter pieces of wood.
Hi Bob Dylan,
I suppose you could try woodfinder!

No info on the source for the cherry (although I have several 16' pieces drying in the shop at the moment), but just wanted to say I always loved that ceiling lattice. If I remember correctly, don't I recognize that picture from one of the Sarah Susanka Not-So-Big-House books?

Actually, it is not from one of her books. It is a design she did for a client for a retirement home built near Stowe, Vermont. The plans are available, and my client saw the home in a tour a couple months ago, and wants to replicate it.
Photos of the house were shown in a Fine Homebuilding article by her, last year, called "rooms without walls," or something like that.
You can see a pretty good photo set at the website of the plans seller. Go here: http://www.healthyhomedesigns.com/home_plans/photo_detail.php?plan_id=110
Don't have my books handy to check, but maybe it was in her latest book, Home by Design.
Wherever I saw it, I remember loving the idea, and how it defined the room area (and hall) as well as created a lower "ceiling," making a cozier space. I also remember not wanting to have to dust it, LOL.
Good luck finding the cherry. The home will be beautiful.

Been there, done that. Here are a couple pics of our house. It's a copy of Ms. Susanka's St. Paul original "not so big house."
Beautiful! Thanks for posting the pictures. I'm using a lot of her ideas in the design for our new house, and it's nice to see them implemented.
So, is it a joy to live in? (And how DO you dust the lattices? Vacuum them?)
Leigh
I was afraid I'd lose my guy card if I asked, but I always kinda wondered how big a PITA those would be to keep dust free.
Hmm, wonder if I could encase it in plexi? Maybe find some non-glossy plexi somewhere. :)

You can custom make a brush for cleaning them.
Try a good scarf joint, well done and grain matched it will never show.
Hi Bob,
Give http://www.lakeshorehardwoods.com a try. They are in Pulaski, NY, very reliable and they may be able to produce what you need.
Bill
Hearne Hardwoods (SE PA) handles a lot of lumber and may be able to help.
