Hello,
There seems to be few folks here who are quite handy with Sketchup so I thought I would ask you about sharing Sketchup drawings with non sketchup users. I am just getting my feet wet with this program but I have run into a bit of a roadblock when trying to share my drawings via email with people who don’t have this program on their computer.
Is there a way to do this by saving it as a more universally readable file? I’m not the sharpest chisel when it comes to computer know-how so I figured I would check in with those of you who have both the workshop and keyboard skills.
Thanks, David

Dave:
I usually save my drawings in pdf by using the "File - Print" function and then choosing Acrobat Writer as the printer.
The other option that I know of is to export your file to a jpg format using the "File - Export - 2 D Graphic" menu.
I hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply Quesne.
I'm guessing that I would need to have the Adobe program to pursue option 1 but the suggestion to try saving it as a jpg file sounds viable. I'll give it a try.
Thanks again, David
Hi David,
I'd like to see places where actual Sketchup files are posted for furniture parts. I haven't had much luck finding any.

Me too Bob! It would probably save us all a bunch of drawing time if we could move around predrawn legs and tabletops. Still, it is a great program. I'm proof that it is easy to use and you can't beat the price.

Try the Google 3D Warehouse http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ and search for furniture.
glenn,
I did that several times but not much in the way of period pieces that appealed to me. Actually let me rephrase that, not much as to what I'm looking for.
Also, it would be great to be able to grab parts and redimension/resize them.
I'm sort of a newbie with Sketchup, but am making progress. Great software!

Bob,
Are there specific SU parts you're looking for?
I just added a little thing to the Design. Click. Build Blog that I hope will be helpful for those looking for furniture components. http://blogs.taunton.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?webtag=fw-designforum
Dave,
I looked briefly at your blog and I think I will be spending a lot more time there in the future. Lots of great info.
I tried that method suggested by quesne of exporting the file and saving it as a 2d jpg. It worked very well and means that I can share my Sketchup drawings at will.
I'm sure you and the other Knots Sketchup experts will be getting lots of "How do I ....?" questions from me as I work through this program.
