HI all ,Iwas looking at a table that has been in my family for ever, I knew it was made by a family member prior to the civil war, but after talking to a senior family member I was surprised to find out that the maker was a new england cabinet maker from around either, boston or keene, new hampshire.
my question is are there any archives or search data bases for researching ,early
apprentichip records, are payroll or tax info for early 1800 any advise or help would be appreciated.
thanks mark

I can't remember the name, but I know there is a book of early American cabinetmakers. I'm not sure if it is still in print. I saw a copy last week in a used bookstore in Portsmouth NH.

I think antiques roadshow has a website. I'd bet they have a list of references to experts on such things. If you can find the right old stuff expert, they'll know exactly where to direct you for more info.
Any markings on it anywhere? If it was made in a cabinet shop there's likely a trademark of some sort on the bottom that'd tell an expert who made it and aproximately when.
I have a book titled "The Cabinetmakers of America" by Ethel HallBjerkoe, dated 1957. Maybe that's what you are looking for. If I can look up someone for you, I'd be glad to.
Thanks to every one for there input.
