I have a new portable Dewalt planer.. the 13″ model. Very nice but it creates a raised edge/ridge on pine where the bloard enters the planer.. the blades plane off everything but leaves these ridges… The blades are intact and new… What is happening? Thanks in advance for any help, J

I,d try lookin up infeed roller height adjustment in the manual. My Delta 12 1/2 says it should be .020" above blades. I think I remember reading that in the manual when it came time to change blades. Good luck
Jim- That's called snipe, and it's caused by infeed or outfeed rollers, or both, not being tuned properly. Consult your owners manual to adjust. If you're unable to adjust to eliminate snipe, put a scrap piece in ahead of your stock, overlapping it, and the scrap will get the snipe, not your finish piece.

The ridges were parallel to the path of the board and along its full length. I flipped the knives even though I couldn't see any nicks in them and the problem is now gone. When you eliminate the possibilities the answer no matter how unlikely remains. So said Sherlock Holmes!
You have a nick in at least one knife. By moving knife you now are planing out the ridge left by nicked knife.

I dont know what dewalt does to the blades in their new planers(or was it reconditioned?) but the blades I got with mine dulled on the first few maple boards i put thru.Seemed like the blades werent honed and a wire edge just rolled over. New blades wer great.Dewalt doesnt seem to have as good feed rollers as my old jet.
The blades should not have a wire edge, that's one reason they were dull. I would contact the store where you bought it, and dewalt.Maple is a hard dense wood, take light cuts, 1/64" or so.Glad new blades worked for you.

If the edge rolled over, there's a problem. That should never happen to a knife like these. If it's that new, I would go back and try to get replacement knives.
Any time a raised line is left after planing, it's because of a nick in both of the knives. If it was in just one, the other would plane it off. Moving one so the nicks don't line up will eliminate this line. There was probably a piece of metal in the wood, even a staple. Doesn't need to be a nail or screw.
