When using a mortising drill bit, I keep getting the wood chips stuck in between the drill bit and the square chisel surrounding the drill bit. Does anyone know how to prevent this…Is the drill going too slow/too fast?
Thanks

Have you tried moving the drill bit up or down inside the chisel? You should be getting sawdust not chips coming between the bit and chisel.
You may be getting feed and speed mixed up. Try slowing the rate at which you
lower the chisel. Also, make sure the drill bit is centered in the chisel and both are
sharp.
That is because you have the drill projecting too far out from the chisel. There should be instructions on how to get the correct clearance accompanying the chisel set.The shoulders of the augur should just clear the edges of the chisel-but shouldn't be rubbing at any time.Feed pressure should be firm but neither excessive or too light, assuming correct set up and sharpness.
Thanks for the tips....i'll try them out and am sure that will solve my problems....
