Mission style Floating Top Sofa Table
Trying to solve a design conundrum, I have plans (..and agreement from the other half) to build a mission style sidebord (cherrycurly cherry, maplecurly maple kinda thing). BUT. I also have a wide, natural edge piece of bubinga that is dying to be a sofa table. I like the floating top style, as it will highlight the bubinga, but looking for suggestions on how to get enough common theme in the two pieces for them to co-exist in the same room.
any suggestions (other than sending you the bubinga..) are welcome..
thks
Peter

Color is a strong design element that can tie 2 unlikely works together. Your eye is drawn by similar colors, the way to create movement in a painting is to use the same colors to "Carry" your eye through out the piece. This works with furniture also.
Even with two very different styles the wood can be the tie that binds. Maybe figure a way to use some cherry accents in the Bubinga table and likewise some Bubinga accents with your cherry piece. Of course Maple and Bubinga look really good together.
This doesn't mean similar design elements aren't welcome. For instance something as simple as the same leg shape will help tie them together.
Thks Earl !! ... Great suggestion.. I nearly always forget about the ability color has when it comes to wood, and too often try to tie it all together with similar joinery, reveals, panels, etc...
