I was wondering If anyone has the MiniMax MM16 Bandsaw and can tell me how to set the Lower guides when you are cutting on a 45 degree angle. The problem I’m having is that when I try to adjust the lower guide I cant get the guide Bearings behind the teeth of the blade. It doesn’t”t seem to matter what size of blade I use The Teeth of the blade are about and 1/8″ in to the guides. With 3/4″ and above blades I set the teeth on the bottom wheel protruding just slightly over the front of the tire,.{ per instructions of the service manual},1/2″ and smaller I center on the tires. I Only have this problem when I’m cutting bevels. In order to do so, I have to drop the lower guides all the way down so that the table doesn’t hit the guide bracket and prevent the Table from dropping to the desired degree position.( Example 35 Degrees). Certainly there must be a way to fix this Problem. I tried calling MiniMax since I did purchase this saw new just a few months ago but they don’t have a blade to try and to duplicate the problem. I’m beginning to wonder If I made the right choice in Bandsaws. Please Help if you can. Thanks Chris

If you are not a member, you might want to join the Minimax users group hosted on Yahoo. There are many members who have the MM 16 and there have been many discussions concerning the lower guides. I don't have a Minimax bandsaw so I don't know the details.
Thanks I 'll try it out and see chris
Ziggy,
I have an older MM 16 and just yesterday performed the operation you describe. I tilted the table, it hit the lower guide. I loosened the 17mm bolt at the bottom of the lower guide mount and dropped the guides down about half way. Tried tilting the table again and it worked fine.
I'm not sure what is going on with your set up!??!
You will want to pull the "throat insert" out--I had to do that also so the blade wasn't flexed out of shape when I tilted the table.
Post back if you continue to have difficulties.
I don't think you bought the wrong saw; I love mine!!!!

Mack

Ziggy I agree with you. Although I have not needed to cut anything at an angle as of yet its good to know about the guides. I have owned my MM16 for 4 years and it is the older model as well the best thing about the new model is the bigger re saw capacity. mine is at best 12 1/2".
Tony,
Mine is of that same vintage and resaw cap. is the same as yours. I would not trade the use I have gotten out of the saw for the extra cap. of the new ones. They are always improving these things and if you wait till they're perfect, you'll wait forever.
I realized when making the angle cut that the throat insert has to be removed otherwise it hits the blade and tries to push it to one side. I don't see this as a problem and it did not pose one from a practical standpoint when I was making the cuts.
I really enjoy using the MM 16! It's such an exponential step up from my old BS!
I told the salesman I had two requirements; never regretting the purchase and never wanting a better one. So far, so good!

You must have only had to tilt your table a little and not all the way to 45 degrees, I guess. I'm not sure about the year model you have and how it works but I do know is the one I bought in order to tilt the table to 45 degrees you have to drop the lower guide all the way down as far as they will go( and then some), I do Love the saw but I hate this design on the table. Like having to take out the throat Plate in order to tilt the table as well. I had to make some out of wood just so my work piece wouldn't catch on the mouth of the opening where the throat plate goes.I'm still waiting on MIni Max to call me back," Good Luck", so that I can resolve this problem. Thanks for your help though. Chris
