If the switch has gold flashed or better yet.. plated contacts it should work forever! Gold goes not corrode... A very tiny film of gold works on low voltage contacts. As I recall! Yes I worked with electronics. Radio Shack use to have them very inexpensive.. Not sure about these days...
Are you after a switch which will turn on the light when you open the door or a small switch to turn on the light so you can see to open the door?
If the latter, you could get a little push button switch and protect the button with a dome cut from a baby-bottle teat.
If the former, how about one of those little microswitches which disable the motor of a drill press when you open the top to change speeds? No reason why it shouldn't work with a low voltage and it's goung to be inside and protected.
Switches open and close a set of contacts. WHen you say one that will work with an AA/AAA battery, what exactly are you powering and what are you switching? If you are switching a circuit powered by a battery cell, any 12VDC micro switch should work. Tell us your needs and someone will confirm.
