Does anyone have anything good/bad to say about the Makita BDF 452 HW 18v lithium ion drill? It’s been getting good reviews, and I like the idea of plenty of power in a smaller, lighter package.
I can get it for $200. Fifty more bucks gets the impact driver, and another twenty buys the flashlight.
Any feedback is appreciated.

I have a different set, same idea: 18V Lithium Ion drill/driver set. Will never, ever be without one. Small, light, powerful, recharge in 15 minutes. What's not to like? We built our deck with the set, I loaned it out to a friend who's putting 17 custom-fit mangers in a new stable, and he'll never be the same. I've been bugging him for weeks to try the Makita, and once he did, he was totally convinced.
I agree...what's not to like? Sounds almost too good to be true!
Do you have the Makita model that packs a bit more oomph?

I think the "oomph" is the same between the 2 battery choices, but the higher Ah batteries last longer. Ours last much longer than our aged knees do, to they're just fiine. ROFL!

I can relate to the aged knees!! :<)
As I understand it, the higher amp hour batteries are the same shape and will fit both tools and use the same charger, yes/no?

"...will fit both tools and use the same charger, yes/no?" Yes! And a smart charger it is, too.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Looks like Makita has a winner here. They put a lot of thought into this tool.
Now to my Santa letter...
"Now to my Santa letter... " Yep, it's getting to be that time, isn't it? I'm not hankerin' for any more tools at the moment, but I've got my eye on some WorkTunes or Stihl muffs that have the MP3 jack.....

I would love one of those.
I have paid that for a second hand 18 volt nmh jobbie.

I have the small Makita 10.8 A palm impact driver which I use almost every day in the shop on furniture. I hated cordless tools after getting one of the early drills with the old Nicad batteries. But.. I was given a Makita at IWF to put over 40 WW machines together and I purchased one the next week after that WW show.
Great stuff and at this point I feel it is in-dispensable. If I needed to do another deck I would get the 18V impact driver as an impact driver gets about 90% of my intentions. I have the palm drill driver that came in the set and use the battery from it for back-up on the impact but occasionally use that drill.
I personally think you won't go wrong as I now love cordless tools with the addition of Makita and Lithium...
Sarge..
