I want to cut some dados with my Kapex sliding miter saw. The cutting dept limiter works fine, but at less than full depth, the saw doesn’t coma down far enough to make a flat dado. I suppose I could put a sacrificial board behind the item, but somehow that seems odd. I don’t see how the limiter could have been designed that way. Any notions? Thanks.

Kapex shortcoming
Unfortunately the Kapex does not address this issue and yes you do have to place a sacrificial board to get a full dado cut throughout. I had once asked Steve at the Festool school and he confirmed what you suspect. I found it somewhat "un-Festool-like" as I find their engineering usually very thoughtful. For example, they could have used a two-way fence like those found commonly on Euro-style table saws and bandsaws (the Delta Unifence is an example) on the Kapex so that the fence in the "lying down" position would push the workpiece out enough to accomodate a full dado cut. At best, you can turn lemons into lemonade by having your sacrificial board sized and secured sufficiently to eliminate tear out as you plow out your dadoes.
