I’m interested in Nakashima’s use of the cantilever principle in his Conoid chairs. Does anyone know specifically what kind of joint he uses? The joint in the chair’s sled-like base is pretty straightforward, though I’d love to know what angles are possible for the legs. And the critical joint of the seat is most interesting. What kind of joint is it? How does one know how much weight can be borne by the joint?
Does anyone have any drawings of the joinery? I don’t recall seeing diagrams in Nakashima’s book.
Thanks!
Mitch

If you have "Soul of ####Tree," look on pages 133 and 144. There is a sketch and photo that I believe will tell you what you want to know.
