I just bought a Rikon jointer and am having troubles. When I run a board through I get a hump in the middle of the board. What am I doing wrong? Also which table should you have pressure on, infeed or outfeed as you are running the board through? As you can quess I am new to using a jointer. HELP

First the jointer needs to be tuned up. You need to know that the tables are co-planar with each other. Each of the knives needs to be the exact same height above the cutterhead. And the outfeed table should be about .003 or so (I'm still a little foggy on that number) below the height of the knives when the knives are at top dead center (TDC).
Once the stock is several inches past the cutterhead you need to put most of your pressure on the outfeed side, because that is your reference place. JOINTERS ARE VERY DANGEROUS (sorry for yelling, wanted to make sure you heard). I will strongly recommend that you purchase John White's book Care and Repair of Shop Machines (click here) and/or Jointers and Planers by Rick Peters (click here).
Sorry, it's 12:30am, really gotta get to bed. Others will come up with more details, but please work safely!
