Sorry if I’ve missed instructions somewhere, but this is the quirkiest forum software I’ve ever used.
Is there a way to make it behave like other forums, such as the ability to read all messages since my last visit, or to browse all messages from one sub-forum?

In the upper left corner, there is a drop down box called "Show discussions.... Set it for "unread messages". To browse all messages in a given category, click on the area just below the title of the category that tells you the total number of messages (Msgs). You'll get to look at 50 at at time and at the bottom there will be a navigation link for the next 50, previous 50, etc.
Gary's instruction works if you are in "Advanced View" -- which, as far as I'm concerned, is the only view to work in! Scroll in the right-hand pane/frame to the bottom. If it says "Switch to Advanced View", do it! If it say's "Switch to Basic View" just leave it alone and go on your merry way.
The other feature in that drop-down box for "Show threads" is "Unread messages to me." If you've made a few posts, that's a quick way to see if anyone made responses to you.
Thank you for your assistance. I'm finding it easier now.
Strange software, though ... not surprised it doesn't pop up more regularly around the internet.
It might be that after you've used it for awhile, you'll find you really like it. I'm quite used to this format, and the phpBB software, which is used at WWA and a ton of other forums around the internet (it's basically free, I think).forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
You might find the ( OUTLINE ) more familiar.
But I like this format.

It's all perspective.
I think this is the right way and all the others are quirky and cumbersome.

Just spit it out and somebody will respond if they got somethin' to say!
At the top on the left where it says Show Discussions, click on it and from the Pull Down Menu there will be a selection for Unread Msgs. That will display all messages you have not read. To see Unread Msgs To Me only, click on that selection.
You can also see Recently Viewed too. Read the selections and I'm sure you will find one appropriate to your needs.
