Hi, I veneerd 3/4″ poplar and am concered w/ chipping veneer w/ age / use. I am thinking about a 3/4″ x 1/8″(?) maple band , but cross graiun glue uo of end grain is a concern, should it be? drawers are about 5″ high, 30″ wide. I could also do a rabbit inlay, perhaps 1/$ or 3/*” in? Please coment . Thanks to all, Dave

Dave,
Search the archivwes under "cock beading". This furniture technique is designed to protect drawer veneers from the punishment they receive over years of use. Depending on the style of the piece, cock beading also contributes a fine detail that is very flattering to the overall design.
