Use of veneered elements in furniture/other projects
This probably belongs in the Veneer Category, but that was not a choice for posting.
I have an understanding of veneering in general, and have found resources for guidance.
It strikes me that there is not a comprehensive or well developed resource that addresses using veneered elements in furniture or other projects. While edging panels is discussed in resources, there is limited guidance on best methods if panels are to be joined in some way…will a solid wood edge bond sufficiently to mdf substrate to transfer stresses? Is plywood a better substrate choice for solid wood edges and joining/strength? Example aside from joining…if a solid wood edge is used with a veneered mdf substrate panel on a table top, will the edge near the joint with the substrate be prone to cracking if there is expected loading on the edge, or picking up the table by the edges? In general, I am looking for suggestions on guides that help bridge the gap from veneer techniques to the application of veneered elements in furniture…and avoiding practices that may compromise either the veneer/marquetry panel or the edges/joints.
Any sources or general guidance appreciated. It is always possible I am overthinking this.

The single best source I can recommend is Craig Thibodeau's "The Craft of Veneering" from Taunton Press.
