I am designing a small box (8″ (L) x 4″ (W) x 2.5 (H in centre)) with a curved laminated top (3/8″). Wracking my brain trying to figure out how to hinge the top. (Do not want hinges showing on the back nor Soss nor bullet + groove). Spent the last hour thinking about how to modify knife hinges but no luck.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Not having the hinges appear at the back edge of the lid, it seems to me, is the issue, as that precludes the normal edge clearance. Your pivot point would need to be above the bottom edge by at least the thickness of the top, I believe, or offset enough to provide edge clearance. A European-style cabinet door hinge might solve the clearance issue, but I don't know if such hinges are made small enough for your application.
Internal leather pieces can act as a hinge.
Or, you can glue in small pins (metal or wood) on the sides of the lid and insert them into corresponding holes on the box sides.
Otherwise, I would look at knife hinges. You'll need small ones. The best ones and only ones I've found in small sizes come from

Have you considered making your own from wood or brass? The hinge halves are relatively easy to make. Making the pin for the hinge parts can be a bit tricky. For very small hinges I would use brass. Small wooden hinges break easily (most woods).
Tx for the suggestions.
R: you are right. the problem is the edge clearance with the curved top (and the angle of opening). I could recess butt hinges but with the curved back and top, it would look sloppy).
ak: Tx very much for the tip on Sanderson. Their small knife hinges look very encouraging.
Will: I had thot of wooden but decided not to for strength. I might try making my own but at the tolerances I would working at, would have to forego coffee!
Your thots are much appreciated.

I've seen the curved lid attach to a narrow vertical piece and the hinges placed between them. In other don't hinge right at the curve
