I have a customer that has ordered a blanket chest that will need slow release hinges. I wanted to know if there was a pair that worked better than others. I see some work off a piston, others with a tightened bearing, etc. Appreciate what you would recommend, the top will be 40″ x 22″ solid maple. Thanks

I used them on a blanket chest and they performed well.
That's one heavy lid... I like the lid supports from Rockler. The dark color looks nice, and the support and action is really nice. I used two lid supports rated at 45 lb•ft each for my six-board chest lid, but it was much lighter than your lid. You're probably going to need to support 175 to 225 lb•in depending on the thickness of your lid. That could be done with two supports rated for 95-125 lb•in each. The hardware is left/right side specific. Costs $12.99 each. Pay close attention to the instruction for installation.
I would recommend you use the following:
• Left side mount, 95-125 Inch-lbs - Item #26203

• Right side mount, 95-125 Inch lbs - Item #26237
