i have a project that i have finished in a white lacquer satin. not sure if i like the sheen, thinking a glossier finish would have been more appealing. my question is if i go with a gloss clear will that give me the result i’m looking for or should i shoot it again with a final gloss white. right now i’m very happy with the way it came out, i would hate to potentialy have any issues with another coat. never tried it myself so any input would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

About 85% or so of the final sheen comes exclusively from the surface smoothness of the final surface. Therefore, you would get the results you want from either shooting a white gloss coat, or from using a gloss clear coat. Do remember that gloss does show any defects much more readily than satin. The cleasr coat will give a bit different look than the pigmented final coat, but both are likely to be equally durable.
steve, thanks for the info. as it sits i think that i did a great job on the final prep, any defects are very hard to see. i back lit the surface after each coat to really see any scratches or flaws and it definitely paid off. i think i'm going to try the clear, just to get that little extra surface glare. thanks again for your input it was very helpful..
