Can any one help? i would like to use a shop vac on my mitre saw for dust collection on site and was looking for advice/wiring diagrams on how to have the vac come on with the saw, then possibly stay on for a time after i have finished using the saw. Any advice would be most helpful.

You could buy a switch like this one <click>. It's on sale at the storefront Rockler for $26.00, but it doesn't look like the web price matches.

looks good, just fancy having a go myself, thanks for your reply
You can also get one at Sears for $20 with two outlets. I have a shopvac and light set up at my bandsaw like this. Works great. It also stays on a few seconds after you turn off the tool to make sure everything gets sucked out!

I ran into a minor glitch with my Porter-Cable miter saw and Fein vacuum. I plug the saw into the vacuum and as soon as I start the saw the vacuum automatically switches on. It is supposed to continue running for about 5-10 seconds after the tool switches off. On other tools (router, sander, etc.) this works great. But on the miter saw the laser guide light draws enough current that the vacuum continues running indefinitely. Right now my solution is to let the saw throw the sawdust against the wall and vacuum it up periodically. Ultimately I plan to build a dedicated cabinet for the miter saw with a dust collection system something like what Forestgirl posted pictures of some time ago.
