Drawer Slide Installation???
I am making a large chest of drawers for my workshop.
My question is where on the drawer side to mount the drawer slides. I plan to have handles on the top of each drawer (similar to a rollaway chest).
In the past I have had center mounted handles and placed the slides at the same level on each drawer side.
So I wanted inputs on whether to mount the slides on the bottom, center or top of the drawer sides?
Thanks for your help.

I don't think it matters too much. Mounting close to the bottom might take some of the stress off the joints by limiting movement of the bottom, especially when the contents are heavy.
I made a filing cabinet with heavy duty full extension drawers, and put the slides near the top because the drawers hold hanging files. Having used it for a few years and having moved it a few times, I wish I had put the slides on the bottom so I didn't have to hold the loaded drawers by the slides at the top when moving them individually. Slides at the bottom or middle would have allowed me to rout in some handholds on the drawer sides. Next time I need to move the thing I'm going to make this modification.
slide type?
You don't mention what type of slides you are using, Walter. If you are using ball-bearing slides, I don't think it matters as much, since minimal force is needed to move the drawer. If you are using hardwood slides, mounting them in line with the pulls might make opening the drawer slightly easier, I'd think. But, I might be wrong on that point. We'll have to see if a real drawer expert adds his/her opinion to the discussion.
Drawer Slide Installation
Thanks for the discussion guys. Yes they are heavy duty ball bearing slides and unless a real drawer expert weighs in, I think I'm going with mounting them in the center of the drawer sides. I don't expect to have a lot of weight in the drawers, but you know how that goes.
