I am going to make a dresser (chest of drawers) and am wondering what is the maximum size drawer that is practical. My preliminary dimensions are 33.5″ h x 48″ l x 19″ w. I have been asked to use soft closing sliders on all the drawers. could the bottom drawer be a single across the 48″. intuitively that seems too big to me.
thoughts would be appreciated.

edit: I should have mentioned that it is for clothes.

You can definitely use Blum Tandems or similar for a drawer that is 48" wide. For clothing you don't even need the heavy-load type; the normal 30kg rated slides will do just fine. Your major concern is only to use a bottom that will not sag. Whether or not it's practical to have such wide drawers is an entirely different matter. Personally, I think it's too much. But technically it will work just fine.

David,
thanks for the response. Aesthetically there is a case to be made for a single bottom drawer and then moving up to multiple drawers but speaking pragmatically I am not sure its such a good idea. if the case was narrower i.e. in the 36" range than I wouldn't have asked the question.
thanks again.

It's a convenient place to store pots and pans and usually gets loaded down good . How about one face attached to two boxes if your worried .
