Changing oil in a Delta DC-380 15&quo…
*
Any information on how much high pressure gear oil this thing takes. I am sure my manual gives this information, but I couldn’t find it. The manual also does not give clear instructions on how to refill the oil; the fill hole is on the side of the gear case and appears to be about 3/8″. I know it takes a lot less than a quart, but I was not able to accurately measure how much less while it was coming back out of the fill hole onto my shop floor. Honest to God, I have never been hurt (badly) in my shop, though the simple task of adding oil might convince you otherwise.

We just did ours a couple months ago when we changed the drum bearings... what a hassle that was! My memory is a little foggy, but it seems there are two ways to do this. One, you can simply put the lube nozzle in the side fill hole and squeeze in lube until it starts backing out on you, or there is something on the top of the case ( a screw or bolt that you can take off and then fill it through that hole. Either way, it seems to me it took about 20 Oz. of lubricant. Gook luck.
*Had to add oil to mine when I got it. (The gearbox leaks) I just stuck the nozzle on the bottle in the side hole and squeezed until it ran out, and ran, and ran.......Have no Idea how much stayed in but will fill a little at a time, next time.Never thought for a minute you would be dangerous in your shop. Like my "Shade Tree Mechanic" Father told me, "Don't worry about a little spilled gear oil"LOLJack.
