Matt's favorite technique of all time reminded me of this William Ng video on flush trimming edge banding on the table saw with his high fence: https://youtu.be/AddH8IgL7wY?t=469
Hi guys. Really appreciate the podcasts; it always makes my commute to work a little more enjoyable, especially when Mike and Matt go at it. I've used Matt's flush trim technique many times. Initially, I would do it exactly as he described, except my auxillary fence was made of 3/4" plywood. More than once, I allowed my work to tip away from the fence, causing the bit to scallop out an area in the edge. I finally came up with an improvement... allow the auxillary fence on the outfeed side of the bit to come all the way down to the table top. Now, if the work tips, it won't dig into the bit. Hope this makes sense. And BTW, my most used tool in the shop is ........ a #2 pencil ;).
Rollie is a hoot. He ought to be a regular.
Thank you for this issue of Shop Talk Live. As usual it is very informative and entertaining. I have several questions for mike, specifically. Mike, In the most recent Highland Woodworkers program you were featured, and I enjoyed the insights given about your philosophies in woodworking. There was a photo of your shop showing your shop and the doors. I have attempted to install the exact type of doors in my garage but am met with the answer that there is nothing available. Are your doors custom or commercial, and if commercial do you know of a source?
On a more woodworking note, I saw also on the Highland article a table which I assume you made which I liked a great deal and would like to copy if you wouldn't mind. I appeared to be white oak stained dark brown and has an eastern hint and floating top and through tenons. I has a Greene and Greene touch to it also. Any information that would assist me in making this for my home would be appreciated. Note, my wife made me promise to not make any more furniture for our home but when she saw this table she asked caved. Can you help me out?
