Vogt Toolworks - Vogt Toolworks Super Chute Shooting Board
Adjustable fenceShooting Board is Better than a Shopmade Jig
I use a shooting board all the time to trim end grain and true up miters. Through the years, I’ve made a lot of them. My shopmade versions have worked great, but the fence and the vertical wall of the runway eventually get worn out.
The Super Chute from Vogt Toolworks solves both problems. The fence is adjustable side to side, so it can be set to just kiss the plane’s blade.
It prevents tearout on the back of the workpiece, but isn’t cut by the blade. The vertical wall of the runway is lined with a thin strip of acetal, a very dense and slick plastic, that prevents the runway from wearing down with use. The bottom of the runway is covered with a piece of UHMW plastic, so the plane glides smoothly through the cut.
The basic board comes with two fences: one for 90° work and another for 45° miters. Both were deadaccurate as shipped but are easy to adjust should they become misaligned. The 90° fence is left in place all the time, and the miter fence is easy to install and remove.
The Super Chute is a durable and luxurious—albeit expensive—bench jig that’s accurate and a pleasure to use.
